Most Beneficial Meditation Exercises Unit 8

I personally found peace of mind and relaxation doing The Subtle Mind Practice as outlined on pages 75 – 76 in our text “Integral Health: The Path to Human Flourishing. I also like doing any kind of visualization meditations like The Meeting Asclepius meditation on pages 56-57 of our text. To foster my mental health I have found that I need to quiet down and/or stop the mental chatter I have going on in my mind. I found it helpful to concentrate on my breath as a focal point as well as to be able to “witness” my own mind chattering away. It was if I could walk away from a table where the committee chattering in my brain sat and just them talk and talk while I went on to sit quietly in peace in the shade under a tree on a hill (all this in my mind, of course). That is what I like about visualization meditation as the peaceful images I conjure up distract me from the chattering committee.

  1. You seem to have the best ideas! I love leaving the "chatty cathies" at the table and going and finding your own quiet space! That's funny. Just like the thoughts that come in and then we dismiss, we're actually rising above and away from the table of chatter boxes. I'll try that one.

  2. that is absolutely fantastic how you visualized walking away from the chatter. I will have to try that because I was having trouble on what to do with the chatter. I will have to find a quiet space since my house is full of kids again. love the noise sometimes but when you need quiet it is hard to get it. lol There is a quiet spot about 15 miles from here with a babbling brooke I think I will try that. What a great ideas you have!

  4. I find it easier for me to calm my mind when I don't focus on breathing. When I breath and conduct breathing exercises I get a little dizzy, finding a place to peacefully get aquainted with lack of thought and wholeness is harder to come by than actually focusing on the assignments.
